We're expanding the Internet of Things Expo—aka @ThingsExpo—from one track to three, from 15 sessions to 45, with additional general sessions as well. The event will be held November 4-6 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in the heart of Silicon Valley. For the Ages That which we call a thing by any other name would be as neat, with apologies to William Shakespeare. I summon The Bard in this instance, I guess, because I see the Internet of Things as something that will endure over the centuries. We've entered the final era of computing; now it's just a simple matter of continuing to speed things up. Many have observed that we're talking about the zettabyte now—a billion terabytes—as a reasonable amount of data to envision in the realm of the IoT. A zettabyte stored in terabyte-size drives would require about 10,000 acres (a square area measuring almost 4 miles in each direction), but might fit on the tip of your finger once we've mastered molecular-level, organic storage. Bandwidth speeds should one day blaze along at speeds thousands of times faster than the norm today. The World of Things The late author Jorge Borge's map of the world, which was the same size as the world itself, will some day come into fruition, as an Internet of Everything monitors, processes, analyzes, and acts upon almost literally everything that's going on. This could result in a mightily dystopic world if we human beings don't learn to choose our political and other societal leaders more wisely. But back to the point, we are just now crossing under the archway to the future of our species. The IoT is the last evolutionary step in the Information Age, albeit one that will last far longer than all of our previous IT history. Submit Your Proposal Now!
