This is Apple of Eden from Assassins Creed
This is not a Thing remix. This is a remix of the 3D printed Eden Apple from Instructables [http://ift.tt/2fqrvTR]. The 3D Apple Eden is the only original part of this remix. What is not part of the original (in other words, what’s new) are the electronics in the Apple of Eden, the 3D printed base and the electronics in the base.

Check out the videos below to see how the apple and base work.

For the Apple of Eden, there are two 3D printed files.
For the Base there are four files.

The Apple of Eden glows. If pulled apart, one half of the apple will glow. When pushed together the entire Apple will glow(see videos). The magnets are used to help hold the apple together. I soldered the wires to the magnet so that when they make contact they (magnets) conducts power to the second half of the apple. (see videos)
The base lights up when the apple is placed on top of the stand. When the apple is removed from the stand, the base automatically shuts off the lights. (see video)

Since I did not have the original source files for the Eden Apple, I had to hack it. So that the electronics could fit inside each apple half, I had to cut off some of the inside inserts. I also had to cut grooves on each half to create a conduit for the wires inside the apple.

The two doors for the base has holes for the magnets. The holes are a tight tolerance. You may have have to use pliers to gently squeeze them in. You can also apply some hot glue in also. To avoid from having the magnets come out, Instead of pulling the door out, you can slide the dorrs apart (see videos).
Also on top of the two doors for the base, one side of the base has a small circle, while the other side of the base has a small square. This will match up with the doors. One door (on the edge) has a small circle which matches the base side with the circle. And the other door has a small square (on the edge) which matches the other side of the base.
The top lid for the base can be hot glued on. And the disc can be hot glue onto the base. Just make sure that the square(s) line up so that the sensor is not blocked.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
