Scotland’s growing tech sector was exemplified by the quality and range of winners celebrated at the ScotlandIS Digital Technology Awards last night.

The winning organisations, all demonstrate impressive results – from emerging digital technology firms to those businesses scaling up fast. The awards recognised a number of great examples of where technical innovation is proving a powerful catalyst in established, traditional sectors.

Polly Purvis, chief executive of ScotlandIS, said: “The success stories showcased at last night’s awards are a testament to why Scotland’s digital technologies sector is increasingly recognised for worldclass innovation. The competition was fierce, underlining the quality of products and services being developed across the industry.

“It is no coincidence that Scotland is home to such high calibre tech businesses given the combination of highly skilled people, a culture of problem solving and innovation and the growing ambition within the industry. We are committed to continuing to raise the profile of the industry and provide support to our membership and the wider community.

“The bar is raised every year at these Awards and it is important to keep feeding that ambition to ensure we continue to compete effectively as an industry on the international stage.”

Disclosure Scotland and BJSS received the award for Innovation within the Public Sector for their work on an enterprise-wide digital transformation programme, migrating highly sensitive police data from a legacy platform to the cloud. Judges were impressed by the year on year roll out of the application and the adoption of cloud from an unscaleable legacy infrastructure.

Ecometrica a company specialising in turning satellite and drone observation data into actionable sustainability insights for business and society, won Digital Technology Business of the Year for Small-Medium sized businesses, impressing the judges with their strong commercialisation and business growth during 2018.

Edinburgh-based Airts, an AI focused software company took Best New Product or Service for “Braid”, an intelligent planning platform that helps organisations meet strategic objectives through optimised scheduling. The company received the award for excellent penetration in sales and delivery in a tough enterprise market.

Andrew Bone, CEO & co-founder, Airts, said: “This is the icing on the cake of what has been a great year. We are experiencing incredible growth and are looking to double our headcount again this year. It’s a really exciting time to be recognised for our work in Scotland’s thriving tech sector.”

Best Training Programme was awarded to The Data Lab. Brian Hills, head of Data at The Data Lab, said: “The Data Lab skills programmes spanning MSc, executive education online and PhD are the result of a lot of hard work and funding support from SFC. Key to the success are the hundreds of companies who have provided placements which have been possible with the help of partners including MBN Solutions. It is such an honour to be recognised with this award particularly as we are such a small team and can see the impact of the training across Scotland.”
