NEW PRODUCTS THIS WEEK
5V Electromagnet – 25 Kg Holding Force – P40/20: What this means is that you just need to power this here electromagnet with about 5VDC (you don’t have to be exact, 4-6V will work fine) and ka-pow, it’s now a magnet. Turn off the power and it reverts back to a normal chunk of metal. Since its a coil, you’ll need to use a motor or solenoid driver with kick-back protection. Our Crickit boards will work great.
Please note: electromagnets are specified with “holding force”, say 25 Kg / 55 lb. This is not how much weight they can pick up! Divide the holding force by 5-10 to get a rough estimate of how heavy a thing it can pick up. So in this case, about 5 Kg / 10 lb max. Note that pick-up weight also depends on a flat surface and max surface contact, and the ferromagnetic metal content. A perfectly flat steel cube will work great, something oddly shaped or covered in rubber or plastic will not!

Flexible Protoboard – 20cm x 30cm: Make your next project super-flexy with a biiiig prototyping board that can twist and shout– err, twist and bend! This passive flexible proto-PCB is about large as a piece of paper, but instead of dead-trees its made of very thin FR4.
We’re not bending the truth! This protoboard is only 0.4mm thick, so its extremely bendable and you can cut it easily with scissors – just don’t use your nice fabric scissors since the fiberglass will dull them. It has a bend radius of about 2 or 3″. You can also crease it, but that might break a trace if you crease a trace, and of course it may crack and break along the crease.

Mini Oval Speaker – 8 Ohm 1 Watt: Hear the good news! This wee speaker is a great addition to any audio project where you need 8 ohm impedance and 1W or less of power. We particularly like this speaker as it is small and comes with nice skinny wires with a connector on the end. It has a handy “Molex PicoBlade” 1.25mm pitch 2-pin cable, which makes plugging into a board easy. Or you can cut off the connector and just solder/clamp onto the wires directly.
Google AIY Vision Full Kit – Includes Pi Zero WH – v1.1: Google AIY Projects brings do-it-yourself artificial intelligence to your maker projects. The Google AIY Vision Kit lets you build an image recognition device that can see and identify objects, powered by TensorFlow’s machine learning models.
The kit includes all of the components needed to assemble the basic kit that works with the Google Assistant SDK as well as on-device voice recognition with TensorFlow using the Intel Movidius Myriad Vision Processing Unit (VPU) hardware assist.
