Peristaltic Liquid Pump with Silicone Tubing – 5V to 6V DC Power: Move fluid safely from here to there with this very nice Peristaltic Pump that works with 5V or 6V power. Unlike most liquid pumps, this is a peristaltic type – the pump squishes the silicone tubing that contains the liquid instead of impelling it directly. The upshot? The pump never touches the fluid which makes this an excellent choice for any food/drink/sterile-based pumping such as for making drink-bots or gardening robots!

The pump is basically a geared down DC motor, so it has a lot of torque. Inside the pump is a ‘clover’ pattern of rollers. As the motor turns, the clover presses on the tube to press the fluid though. The pump does not need to be primed and in fact can self-prime itself with water a half meter with ease. You can PWM the motor to speed up or slow down the flow rate and if you connect the motor the other way it will move fluid the other direction. Works great with either a power transistor (basic on/off) or a motor driver chip such as the L293D. See more!

Miniature Reflective Infrared Optical Sensors – 5 Pack – ITR20001/T: This Reflective IR Sensor is a simple plastic casing with two elements – an IR LED and an IR phototransistor. You can control the IR LED and turn it on to bounce IR off objects to determine their reflectivity. White & light colored stuff will bounce the light, so you can detect it. Black & dark colored stuff will absorb the IR light so that it isn’t detected. Likewise, if something isn’t in the way of the sensor, it won’t trigger either. See more!

Pimoroni HyperPixel – 4.0″ Hi-Res Display for Raspberry Pi – Non-Touch: Pimoroni’s HyperPixel features a 4.0″ display with 800×480 18-bit color pixels. The plate uses the high speed DPI interface on the Pi and can use the mini display as a console, X window port, displaying images or video, etc. Best of all, it plugs right in on top – So easy!

The DPI interface is super fast, and has speed-optimizations just like HDMI, but it uses just about every pin on the Pi so it is a challenge to use this and also connect sensors, add-ons, device, etc to the Pi. You should stick to devices that interface with USB rather than the GPIO header. See more!

Quick 861DW Hot Air Soldering Rework Station w/ Three Nozzles: If you’ve ever made a mistake when surface-mount soldering, you’ll know how much of a pain it can be to fix it without the right tools. It can add critical time to a project and can seriously stymie your soldering momentum if you run into a bad component or a faulty reflow. With the Quick 861DW Soldering Station, you can easily rework your boards and get your project back on track. See more!

3964 00Adafruit VEML6075 UVA UVB and UV Index Sensor Breakout:This little sensor is a great way to add UVA and UVB light sensing to any microcontroller project. The VEML6075 from Vishay has both true UVA and UVB band light sensors and an I2C-controlled ADC that will take readings and integrate them. The sensor also comes with calibration registers so you can easily convert the UVA/UVB readings into the UV Index.

Compared to our other UV sensors, this one actually does a pretty good job of getting accurate UV data. Unlike the Si1145, it has a real UV sensor, and in contrast to the VEML6070, it has dual band senors and an Index calculation algorithm. So far this is the best UV sensor we’ve got! See more!

Adafruit MPRLS Ported Pressure Sensor Breakout – 0 to 25 PSI: We stock a few barometric pressure sensors, great for altitude and weather measurements. This pressure sensor is special because it comes with a metal port! Unlike other pressure sensors, you can easily attach a tube to it, to measure air pressure inside a close space. In particular we think this would be a great sensor for use with making DIY assistive tech “Sip & Puff” interfaces, or measuring the pressure within a vacuum chamber or other pressurized container.

Unlike most ported pressure sensors, this one uses I2C, it’s really easy to use with any microcontroller. Inside is a silicone-gel covered pressure sensing gauge with a pre-calibrated and compensated 24 bit ADC. We have example code and libraries for Arduino or CircuitPython/Python. You can measure absolute pressure 0 to 25 PSI, which is a great range since ambient pressure here on Earth is about 14.5 PSI. See more!
