Floating Shelf Keyhole by PartayPat Thingiverse

PartayPat shared this project on Thingiverse!

This is an insert that allows you have floating shelves with no visible screw holes. It works well as long as it doesn’t need to take much weight. The corner shelves can take much more weight but are a bit more fiddly to implement.

The part is screwed into a hole in the back side of the shelf. As long as you drilled the hole straight (I was doing it by hand) the teeth will grip and lock the orientation of the part. The shelf now has a “keyhole” feature in the back of it that can slot over a screw in the wall. By altering the depth of the screw in the wall you can get a nice tight fit.

Print with keyhole side up.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!
